Azelaic Acid

Nonanedioic Acid (grain-derived)

AddressesAcneRednessPigmentation

What It Is

A dicarboxylic acid from grains with a uniquely versatile clinical profile: antibacterial (kills C. acnes), tyrosinase-inhibiting (fades PIH and melasma), anti-inflammatory for rosacea, and normalises keratinisation inside pores. One of the only effective actives completely safe in pregnancy. At 20% (prescription) it is FDA-approved for rosacea.

Typical Effective Concentration

10–20%

At these concentrations this ingredient should appear above the 1% line on the INCI list. If you see it listed after preservatives or fragrance allergens, the dose is likely too low to work as marketed.

How to Use

10–20% cream or gel AM or PM. Does not increase photosensitivity. Safe for daily use and during pregnancy.
